Placement Component

Professional training in intriguing and exciting places

As a single major student in Trent’s Forensic Science program, you will gain real-world experience in your third year of study through a placement in the field. This option is available to students who meet the course requirements (a 70% cumulative average, 10 credits including FRSC 1010H, 1011H, 2020H, 2100H).  Since this program began as the first of its kind in 2004, students have held placements in Barbados, California, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and throughout Ontario. These have included work in police agencies, law firms, crown attorney’s offices, hospitals, forensic science labs, vet offices, fire investigations and forensic document analysis companies.

The placement coordinator and student work as a team to source and secure the placement component.  Prior to the experiential learning component, student must be enrolled FRSC 3020H in preparation for the placement. The sequencing of the hours and the dates are flexible and is based on the student’s availability and mentor’s schedule. Potential options for scheduling include: accumulate hours over the course of the school year or following final exams in April. Professional placement hours do not commence until approval is given by the Placement Coordinator.

Stay tuned, exciting changes coming soon!
