For Teacher Education Stream Students
Below are the courses you will be required to take as part of the Teacher Education Stream program.
Year 1
EDUC 1010H: Understanding Teaching and Learning (Part 1)
Introduces concepts of teaching and learning for students enrolled in the Teacher Education Stream. We investigate the nature of what it means to be a teacher, and the relationship between “good” teaching and effective learning, with a particular focus on teaching as a reflective practice.
EDUC 1020H: Understanding Teaching and Learning (Part 2)
This course extends the learning from part 1, with a particular focus on social and environmental justice.
Year 2
EDUC 2010H: Conceptions and Dispositions in Teaching and Learning (Part 1)
EDUC 2020H: Conceptions and Dispositions in Teaching and Learning (Part 2)
These courses expand the conceptions and dispositions of teaching and learning, with a particular focus on making space and place for social justice in education. They investigate the nature of what it means to be a teacher, with a particular focus on the role of leadership and mentoring in teaching and learning, and an exploration of the representation of education public spheres and popular media.
Year 3
EDUC 3010H: Learning Styles and Literacy
This course explores a range of learning style theorists and theories. This exploration will be contextualized within the area of literacy development across the elementary and intermediate ages.
*Students entering Year 3 can similarly enroll in the Study Abroad program available through International Studies at Trent. This is not mandatory, rather an opportunity available to you to gain greater experience and perspective on global issues, before entering your 4th year.
**Students who enroll in the Study Abroad Program are not required to complete EDUC 3010H: Learning Styles in Literacy
Year 4
EDUC 4010H: Topics in Mathematics Education
This course considers both mathematical subject and pedagogical knowledge within the context of the elementary and intermediate ages. It explores the mathematical knowledge necessary to effectively support numeracy development for learners.
EDUC 4020H: A STEAM Driven Classroom
This course considers the integration of science, technology, the environment, engineering, the arts and mathematics within the context of the elementary and intermediate ages. It explores critical thinking and inquiry within this multi-disciplinary approach to education.
PLEASE NOTE: In years 1, 2 & 4, students will complete 36 hours of education-related placements, with 18 hrs in Year 3.
