| I have been teaching since 2012 and throughout that time I have learned an incredible amount about teaching, learning, people, myself, and the importance of adapting material and teaching style to meet the needs of different students. What works one year with one group may not work the next and it is important to assess and evaluate teaching practices regularly. Early in my career, I had the opportunity to teach at an international school in Karamay, Xinjiang China where I designed and instructed grades 11 and 12 English and grade 11 Drama, using Nova Scotian curriculum. Afterward, I taught in a private school in Oxbow Saskatchewan where I designed and instructed grade 6 Science, 11/12 Physical Education and grade 12 English. For the last 10 years I have been designing courses and teaching across various programs at Fleming College, as well as working as an Occasional Teacher for the KPRDSB. I am certified with the OCT, and OCELT associations. I also completed a master’s degree in education with a “classroom specialist” focus. My newest academic venture is a Doctor of Education with a focus in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion which begins in September 2024. I am excited to join the Trent team as I continue my journey and look forward to working with learners and they continue on their paths. |

Cynthia MarshallInstructor | Cynthia is a proud graduate of the Trent University Concurrent Education Program and after 33 years in education, she is excited to “come back home” to where it all began. Cynthia started her career teaching secondary school English in Peterborough, and had the opportunity to teach grades 9-12 in all streams. Working with students who struggled with learning and were at risk of not graduating, encouraged her to move into Student Success-a role she enjoyed for over ten years. For the last five years of her career she was a Guidance counselor and was excited about this new opportunity to support students in their current classes and also help guide them in their post secondary plans. Cynthia is thrilled to take on the new role of Practicum Faculty Advisor for I/S year one and teach Assessment and Evaluation I/S year two. She is grateful for the opportunity to start her educational journey at Trent University and now return to her roots to support Teacher Candidates. |
