Meet Zachary Brault, your Academic Advisor in Catharine Parr Traill College
Zachary Brault
As the Academic Advisor at Traill College, I am here to help undergraduate students clarify their academic goals, decide which courses to take, understand academic regulations and degree requirements, connect with the services they need and, ultimately, take charge of their own education. As part of a larger team of Academic Advisors at Trent, we want to create an on-going educational partnership between advisor and advisee that is dedicated to student learning, development, and success.
I’ve been at Trent since 2012 when I started my undergraduate degree in Mathematics in the Teacher Education Stream. During my undergraduate degree, I worked in residence life for three years which solidified the fact that I wanted to work with post-secondary students instead of becoming a teacher (It’s OK to change your mind as students and to alter your path!). I then went on to complete my Master of Education at Trent while working in Recruitment and Admissions for 5 years. I loved working with prospective students and am even more thrilled now to be working with current students helping them navigate Trent!

As an Academic Advisor at Traill College, I support students in all undergraduate programs throughout their academic journeys at Trent, by building a connection with each student and by working collaboratively to develop an academic plan with the student’s goals and aspirations in mind. I support students in their understanding of degree requirements, and academic policies as well as provide support and resources when a student’s academic journey presents challenging circumstances.
My academic journey began at Ontario Tech University where I completed an undergraduate degree in Forensic Science, with a double minor in Chemistry and Biology. After graduating in 2011, I began a career as a Laboratory Technician at a Research and Development Laboratory. After seven years of building and testing prototypes, I was looking for a new challenge and wanted to go back to post-secondary studies to pursue a career in adult education. My Trent journey began in 2019 as the Academic Administrative Assistant in the Chemistry Department. After a 10-year hiatus from post-secondary education, I am currently working towards a Master of Education degree at Trent and am beyond thrilled to be a part of the College on the Hill team as an Academic Advisor!
