Matthew Ludwig

B.A. In Classics (Brock 2016), M.A. in Classics (Toronto 2018), Ph.D. in Classics (Toronto 2024)

Dr. Ludwig wrote his Ph.D. dissertation on Sophoclean tragedy and is primarily interested in Archaic and Classical Greek poetry, as well as its modern reception. Secondary research interests include the theory and politics of translation, pedagogy, ancient literary criticism, and the Graeco-Roman poetic tradition writ large.

Dr. Ludwig is a member of the faculty of Ancient Greek & Roman Studies for the 2026-27 academic year and is teaching courses on ancient tragedy, approaches to ancient literature, and Greek and Latin languages at all levels. In the past he has taught similar course along with others on ancient epic, ancient Greek history, mythology, women in antiquity, and the reception of Graeco-Roman literature in popular culture. Before coming to Trent, he held previous academic positions at Memorial University of Newfoundland, the University of Toronto, and Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick.
