Rewarding Academic Excellence and Supporting Nursing Students
Trent believes in supporting our students. In addition to Trent's entrance scholarship, the Trent/Fleming School of Nursing offers additional nursing-specific scholarships, bursaries and awards. Available to students in any year of the nursing programs, these financial opportunities will support and enhance student's learning experience and advance their success in education and in their careers. Below are just a few examples of the many scholarships, bursaries and awards the school of nursing offers.
Janet Bews Scholarship in Alzheimer Disease and Related Dementias ($5000)
Awarded to one or two collaborative student(s) enrolled in Nursing courses at the 3000 or 4000 level or compressed students enrolled in 2000-level Nursing courses, who show a career interest in nursing care for persons with dementia.
June Woodend Scholarship in Community Palliative Care Nursing ($1000)
Awarded to a student in second or third year of the collaborative or compressed Nursing Program, who shows a career interest in community-based palliative care.
Doreen (Larmer) Stewart Nursing Scholarship ($2500)
Awards are available to full-time nursing students in any year of study in the TFSON. The scholarship will offer financial assistance to students with demonstrated financial need, with longstanding connections in the greater Peterborough community and surrounding rural areas, and who intend to complete a Bachelor’s degree in the study of nursing and go on to a nursing career.
Lida Ghoreishi Memorial Scholarship in Nursing
Established by family and friends and Trent staff and faculty to honour Lida Ghoreishi and her love and passion for neonatal and pediatric Nursing. Lida graduated from the Trent Nursing Program in 2016. This scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in 3000 or 4000 level Nursing courses and pursuing a career in maternal-child and family-centred Nursing. Selection based on academic merit and an essay application process.
Elizabeth Collins Nursing Leadership Prize
This prize was established by the family of Elizabeth Collins to honour the many years that she demonstrated excellence in nursing leadership in both the hospital and public health sectors. Elizabeth was a dynamic, transformational leader who was a strong champion for the power of nursing in making a positive difference in the lives of patients. Awarded to a full-time or part-time student enrolled in the Trent-Fleming School of Nursing Program at the 3000 or 4000 level who models excellent leadership qualities.
Parkinson Society Dr. Ted Cragg Award ($1000)
Established by the Parkinson Society, Peterborough/ Kawartha Chapter. $1,000 to be awarded to a student enrolled in the Trent-Fleming School of Nursing Program with a B average and an interest in or experience with Parkinson’s Disease. Students in the Collaborative program must be enrolled in 3000-level Nursing courses. Students in the Compressed program can apply when they are enrolled in 2000-level Nursing courses. The student must be willing to interview clients of the Society and facilitate a professional development session among Nursing students. A 500-word essay is required.
Dr. Swarn Lata Makhija Bursary
Established by Dr. Ramesh Makhija and his family in honour of the late Dr. Swarn Lata Makhija, an emergentologist in Peterborough. Awarded to a deserving student in good standing in the Trent/Fleming School of Nursing Program. OTSS guidelines apply.
