Master of Management Graduates: Alumni Panel Social June 8th, 2026
Current Master of Management students recently had the opportunity to hear firsthand from graduates of the Strategic Change Management stream during an engaging alumni panel discussion focused on life after graduation, career development, and navigating today's evolving workplace.
The panel featured alumni Tarin Ridi, Yetunde Akin Thomas, and Sharmin Ferdouse Shormy, who returned to share insights from their professional journeys since completing the program. Now working across sectors including retail banking, project management, and financial services, the alumni reflected on how their experiences in the Strategic Change Management stream helped prepare them to navigate change, lead effectively, and build meaningful careers.
Throughout the discussion, alumni highlighted the practical value of the program's curriculum, emphasizing how courses such as Negotiation, Crisis Management, Change Management, Ethics, and Financial Management continue to inform their work. They spoke about the importance of communication, relationship-building, problem-solving, and people management skills, competencies that have proven essential in roles requiring collaboration, leadership, and strategic thinking.
A key theme that emerged was the importance of adaptability. Whether adjusting to a new country, balancing studies with work and personal commitments, or navigating organizational change in professional settings, the panelists reflected on how resilience and flexibility have shaped their success. They encouraged students to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and to recognize that meaningful career development often occurs outside of one's comfort zone.
The alumni also discussed the impact of Work-Integrated Learning placements, describing them as valuable opportunities to apply classroom concepts in real-world environments, build professional confidence, and gain clarity about future career paths. For some, placements opened doors to employment opportunities, while for others they reinforced existing career interests and provided practical industry experience.
Master of Management Networking Event February 26th, 2026
Opening remarks from our Master of Management Director, Dr. Bruce Cater:
“Let me give you a little bit of background about the Master of Management program, especially for those of you who might be new to events like this. We started the program in 2018. At that time, we had about 35 students applying, and 17 students entered the program in our first cohort. Even then, we believed that we could build something significant—something valuable and high quality. Now, about seven and a half years later, the program has grown tremendously. Each year we receive roughly 1,500 to 2,000 applications, and we now have about 170 students enrolled. That represents about a tenfold increase from where we started, and we’ve also expanded the program to include multiple streams.
The Master of Management program is structured as a four-term degree. Each term is four months long, so the total program lasts about sixteen months. During the first three terms, students focus on the academic side of things. They take classes, attend lectures, and develop analytical tools and management concepts. But management is not something you learn only in a classroom. Management is something you learn by working in real organizations, with real teams, facing real problems and making real decisions. That’s why the fourth term of the program requires students to complete an internship. The internship gives students the opportunity to prove themselves and apply what they have learned during their academic courses.
The opportunities our students receive are possible because organizations like the ones represented here today open their doors to them. When you speak with students about opportunities or consider bringing one of them into your organization, you are providing critically important opportunities for them to begin the careers they hope to achieve. Our students work extremely hard. They are bright, committed, and many of them have made tremendous sacrifices to be here. Some have come halfway around the world and uprooted their lives to pursue this program. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank all the organizations that are here today. You are playing a critically important role in the journey our students are beginning.”
Holiday Season Luncheon & Networking December 2025: Alumni Panel Social
Today, we have a very special event. We were joined by three distinguished graduates of the Master of Management program.
Rehnuma Tabassum graduated in 2020 and is currently a healthcare manager with Lakeridge Health, a large healthcare network in the Eastern GTA. After completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at York University, she worked as a charge nurse in emergency rooms, as a nurse educator, and as a critical care nurse. She later completed the Master of Management at Trent University, which enabled her to move into upper management within healthcare.”
Harnek Singh Randhawa graduated in 2019. He is an executive-level manager with an environmental biotech company focused on developing organic and natural lawn-care products. His experience is firmly rooted in the agricultural sector. He comes from a farming community and holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He has experience in technical services, sales, marketing, public relations, and consulting, and currently leads sales coordination and business planning.
Pritom Kunda Joy graduated in 2020 and is currently a Senior Planner and Buyer with Publicis Group, a global media, communications, and technology company. After earning a BBA in Marketing and completing the Master of Management, his career expanded rapidly. He has worked with multiple agencies in the Toronto area, managing campaigns across gaming, energy, government, and retail sectors.”
