MOVE IN DAY - Summer 2023
Move In Day, the day you’ve been waiting for, is almost here.
We are excited to welcome you to residence and to the Trent University community.
Here’s what to expect from (and how to plan for) this fun and exciting day.
Move In Dates & Checking In
Summer residence move-in day is May 2, 2023. On this day, students can pick up their keys from the Student Housing Office located in Blackburn Hall Suite 129 at Trent University. Our office will be open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on this day.
Summer residence move-in day is May 2, 2023. On this day, students can pick up their keys from the Durham Service Centre located on the second floor of the Durham residence building. The Service Centre is open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on this day.
If you are not planning on moving into residence on May 2, 2023, you are welcome to arrive any weekday (Monday-Friday) between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. You can proceed to the Student Housing Office (Peterborough) or Service Centre (Durham) to pick up your keys.
If you are arriving outside of the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, please let us know via email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we can discuss your options with you.
For students currently living in residence:
If you are a student currently living in residence, you will stay in your current residence space until summer residence move-in day on May 2. On this day you can follow the move-in instructions here to change rooms for the summer.
After inspections of our summer residence areas during our move-out process in April, Student Housing may be required to reassign you to a new room. If you are receiving a new room assignment, you will be notified via email to your Trent email address (or the address you used to apply on our application).
Total costs for Summer 2023 residence can be found on the Housing Website. Students will see a charge for Summer residence appear on their account statement and the entire balance must be paid. If you arrive late or leave early, you will then be credited funds to your Student Account on a pro-rated basis for the number of days you did not live in your room.
Cancelling and Moving Out
If you are no longer interested in summer residence, you must cancel your residence application. To cancel you must log into your residence application in the Housing Portal, select application status and then cancel application. Check out our step-by-step guide.
If you decide to move out of summer residence, please follow the cancellation process above, pack up and move out your things, and then return your keys to the Student Housing Office at Blackburn Hall Suite 129, the Blackburn Drop Box outside the front entrance, or Durham Service Centre or drop box.
Further information about August move-out will be sent at a later day. Please note that summer residence move-out is August 2. Please begin planning in advance as to your next steps after summer residence and reach out to us if you have any questions.
We know there is a lot to think about as you prepare for the move. Here are a few of the items that we suggest be on every students’ “What to Bring to Residence” packing list.
The campus cafeterias, except for Otonabee College cafeteria (Peterborough), are closed for the summer term. As such, students will be responsible for preparing their own food in the kitchen space provided in your residence community.
Starbucks and 76 Sips (Peterborough) will be open Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Otonabee College Cafeteria will be open 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
Due to a shortened turnaround time and an increase in late stays, our maintenance staff may not be able to address all identified issues prior to move-in. As such, technicians may be entering your unit to complete the work. They will be entering on weekdays between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. These entries may continue until May 15.
If you experience a maintenance issue while staying with us, please submit a maintenance request by logging in to your Housing Portal and selecting the “Maintenance Request” tab. If you have any issues accessing this, please email email@example.com.
Students living in Champlain Annex will pick up their letter mail and parcels from the Student Housing office in Blackburn Hall between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday. You will receive an email when a parcel has arrived for you, but students should check regularly for letter mail by coming to the desk. Please use the following mailing address when ordering mail:

Ordering any packages to Trent Durham? We will send you an email when you receive a parcel, and you can pick it up at the Durham Service Centre. You will also get your own mailbox with your room number to send any letter mail, so check this frequently for any new letters. Please use the following mailing address for all orders:

Move In Support
To support your move, we will have some large carts available for pick up and return to central locations outside of each residence. You may wish to bring a cart or dolly with you to assist with moving in.
Once you have unloaded your car, please move your car to a nearby parking lot to allow others access to move in. Parking will be complimentary throughout the move-in period each day. Permits, available for purchase through Parking Services, are required for parking on campus outside of the move-in period. Additional information on parking is available on the Parking Services website.
Complete Your Housing Application
In order to avoid delays during move-in day, please ensure you have completed all steps visible to your in your application (accessible via the Student Housing Portal in myTrent). This includes accepting your room offer as well as digitally signing the 2022-23 Residence Agreement. Failure to complete your application will result in your Move-in QR Code not being sent and will prevent you from checking in on Move-in day until it is completed.
Please also ensure that you have uploaded a photo for your TrentU Card via the MyTrent portal (Under the "Services" tab select "TrentU Card Photo Submission). Your TrentU Card is required to access your residence room and we require your photo to have this card ready for you on move-in day.
