Jumpstart your French with our 6-week French as a second language level 1 micro-credential specially designed for absolute beginners, and as a refresher for those who need to review the basics.
Whether you’re learning French for travel, career advancement, or personal growth, this short, dynamic program provides a solid foundation through innovative and engaging methods.
Course Objectives:
Speak and interact in simple, everyday situations
- Greet people, introduce yourself and others, say where you’re from, and exchange basic personal information
- Express likes, dislikes, dreams, and passions using structures like j’aime, j’adore, mon rêve, c’est…, and ma passion, c’est….
- Ask and answer simple questions
- Pronounce common words and phrases clearly
Reading & Writing Skills
- Understand short texts and signs, such as personal emails, basic ads, menus, and social posts in French.
- Write short paragraphs. Introduce yourself, talk about your hobbies, or draft a simple itinerary.
- Fill out simple forms and respond to online prompts
Listening Skills
- Follow short audio and video clips. Recognize familiar words and phrases in slow, clear speech about topics like shopping, travel, or hobbies.
- Pick up key information, such as numbers, prices, dates, and times.
Cultural & Intercultural Awareness
- Gain insights into Francophone life in Canada and beyond
- Compare customs and social norms
- Building cultural sensitivity and curiosity about French-speaking communities.
Digital & Autonomous Learning Skills
- Use technology to support language learning and develop strategies for self-directed study
Course Details:
- Online 6-week course (Sept 8 2026)
- Approximately 2 - 3 hours of online asynchronous instruction/practice per week, with a 1-hour remote conversation weekly 6-7pm every Wednesday with the instructor, plus assignments
Evaluation:
With the completion of all practice modules and the successful completion of all the assessment modules, with a successful completion of 70%, students will have demonstrated that they are capable of properly handling all the situations presented in the modules
