Co-op Program: Financial Science

Junior Data Associate, Designed Securities

"My co-op position with Designed Securities has offered me so much insight into how my studies at Trent connect to future job positions. I have been able to apply my knowledge practically in my co-op position, and have a better understanding of how to shape my knowledge gathering to fit the corporate style. Above all, I was able to learn while having fun, and Trent was the best support team!"

Co-op Program: Business Administration - Accounting

Co-op Staff Accountant, Baker Tilly KDN LLP

"Choosing to apply to this co-op program has been the best decision I’ve made so far for my career. Finding a co-op was easy with the help from my coordinators and since then, I have realized how rewarding this time will be. Not only am I learning about the field of public accounting and understanding a hint of my future; I’m also gaining maximum practical experience hours towards my CPA designation before graduating. The support I receive throughout my journey in public accounting is outstanding. Everyone is welcoming and eager to help which has made my learning experience nothing but exciting. I think doing a co-op term is the ultimate advantage for all students!"

Co-op Program: Business Administration

Co-op Human Resources/Labour Relations Student, General Motors

"As a Business Administration student specializing in Human Resources, using the co-op resources available to the students at Trent such is valuable to our career development.

While looking for co-op positions for my Winter/Summer 2025 semesters, I secured a position at General Motors as a Co-op HR/LR student. I am very grateful and appreciative of the role that I have in the company. I have learned many different processes in managing employees and various HR/LR processes. My team makes me feel comfortable and I understand how to perform up the company’s standards.

My experience at GM allows me to feel confident in my studying and relates to what I learn in class. I also noticed that what I learned in the co-op program was significant during my co-op application and work experience.

I recommend first year students at Trent University to gain experience through co-op. My co-op experience gives me a taste of the working environment and gives me confidence in pursuing HR after graduation."

Co-op Program: Economics

Global Procurement Analyst Intern, RBC

"I am currently in my third-year doing a B.A Economics Honors (co-op) and had a vision to work in the Big 5 Banks and RBC was my dream company to work for.

Co-op is the most underrated tool a student has up their sleeve to stand out in today's competitive market. I worked incredibly hard to find a good co-op and I secured one at RBC over the summer 2024 and the experience was totally worth it. As an undergraduate student, it is scary to graduate with no work experience, but Trent offers co-op, internships and placements that students need to take advantage of. Best time to explore these programs is in first year, it is helpful to know your options and then making a decision according to your career goals. My advice is to have a clear vision of where you want to work and apply strategically. The process will not be easy, but it is a fruitful journey that sets you up for long-term success."

Co-op Program: Conservation Biology

Education Program Assistant, Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre

"The Conservation Biology Co-op program at Trent provided me with the opportunity to complete co-op work terms with the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre, an incredible organization that rehabilitates injured turtles from across the province. Not only did these work terms give me direct hands-on conservation experiences, but they also allowed me to make connections with volunteers, the OTCC staff, and the broader wildlife conservation community. Now, as a current full-time Education Program Assistant with the OTCC, I look forward to continuing to work with this amazing organization and help protect Ontario's turtles at risk."

Co-op Program: Computer Science

Application Specialist and Business & Data Analyst, Peterborough Utilities Group

"One of the highlights of my work term with Peterborough Utilities was the opportunity to engage with various stakeholders and clients. Taking the time to listen and understand their needs, and learning how to provide tailored solutions is something I would not have experienced if it weren't for the co-op stream."
