Age Requirements - Trent Athletics Centre

To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all members and guests, the following age guidelines apply across the Athletics Centre facilities:

General Building Access

  • Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied at all times by a parent/guardian who is 16 years or older while inside the Athletics Centre. 

Fitness Centre

  • Individuals age 15 and older may use the Fitness Centre independently without a parent or guardian. 

  • Youth ages 12 to 14 may use the Fitness Centre unsupervised only after completing the Teen Fitness Orientation. For details and to register for the orientation, please contact sport@trentu.ca.

  • Children and youth under the age of 12 are not permitted in the Fitness Centre at any time, including when accompanied by a parent or guardian, unless they are participating in an organized and approved program. 

Pool Access

  • Children ages 6 and under must be accompanied in the pool by a parent/guardian who is at least 16 years of age. The parent/guardian must remain within arms reach of the child. Maximum two children per parent/guardian.

  • Children ages 7 to 9 may attempt the Swim Test to demonstrate comfort in the water. 

    • If unsuccessful, they must be accompanied in the pool by a parent/guardian (16+) who remains within arm's reach. Maximum four children per parent/guardian.

    • If successful, they may swim without a parent/guardian in the pool, but the parent/guardian must remain on the pool deck. 

  • Children ages 10 to 12 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian (16+) who remains on the pool deck.
