Trent-Broadview Prize
The Trent-Broadview Prize is an annual academic prize for eligible TUFA faculty and awarded for scholarly books in the Humanities or Social Sciences. The Book Prize Committee invites you to nominate a book for the award for 2027.
The Trent-Broadview Prize aims to recognize and encourage broad perspectives on literature, philosophy, history, politics, cultural studies, or other subject areas within the subject areas of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences. It is awarded in order to recognize an outstanding publication by a TUFA member of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences.
For the purposes of this award, a book’s eligibility is determined by the year of its copyright rather than by the year of its release. For the 2027 award, the relevant copyright date is 2025 or 2026.
Nominations for the 2027 award will close on December 4, 2026. Nominations (including self-nominations) should be submitted via email to tbbookprize@trentu.ca and a hard copy of the nominated book should be delivered to the Dean’s Office (Lady Eaton College, room 204).
All emails of nomination must include the following:
- Nominator's Name
- Title of Book Being Nominated
- Name of (co-)Author or (co-) Editor of Book Being Nominated (must be a TUFA faculty member in the division of Humanities and Social Sciences)
- Book Publisher
- Book Publication Copyright Date (2025 or 2026)
- Optionally, you may include additional comments up to 500 words indicating why the book meets the Trent-Broadview prize criteria of being outstanding. Although this is not a required question, answers to it would assist judges in their deliberations.

The donor’s vision in establishing these funds is to support undergraduate and graduate students to expose their thinking and research to a broad audience, to develop their critical thinking skills by inviting questions and challenges, to help them network with their peers to expand their thinking, to advance their research skills and credibility, and to raise the profile of Trent University.
Dr. Alicja Zobel and Dr. Gosia Zobel wish to support students to attend conferences to advance their studies in science, philosophy, or women’s studies and related fields. They are especially interested in the intersection of science, politics and critical thinking. They see science as important for activism and policy work: e.g. water quality, conservation, improved animal welfare standards on farms.
It is important to the donor that awardees speak at the conference (either through an oral presentation or a poster presentation), as well as engage with peers to challenge the way they think. Recipients are also encouraged, with the support of this fund, to engage with the local university or research centers associated with the conference. The funding will cover costs (outlined under Terms of Reference) to attend and present at a conference and meet with peers.
Note: In the spring of 2026, the total undergraduate prize will have a value of up to $1,000.
