COURSE DESCRIPTION

Writing Part 1 is an introduction to explicit writing instruction and an opportunity for educators to review and deepen their knowledge and understanding of the Language curriculum. 

Teachers will learn and apply policies, educational theories and research, frameworks, and resources that support students in their journey to becoming success writers. Throughout the course they will gain a deeper understanding of assessment, engagement, critical and reflective thinking, and inclusivity with regards to teaching writing. They will actively participate in ongoing discussions with colleagues to promote critical pedagogy and collective teacher efficacy. 

The purpose of the Writing Part 1 course is to develop an awareness and understanding of effective and impactful writing strategies, assessment practices and resources that can be used across various grades and divisions. Educators taking this course will critically examine their own practices and reflect on their own experiences, while deepening their knowledge and skills on how to explicitly teach writing.

PREREQUISITES

(as required by OCT)

• OCT Member in Good Standing or OCT applicant if new Ontario BEd graduate (Read more)
   
• Your teacher education program coursework and practicum must be successfully completed before registration
