Religious Education in Catholic Schools - Travel

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Religious Education Part 1 is designed to prepare Catholic educators to serve as faith leaders in their classrooms and school communities. Rooted in the mission of Catholic education, this hybrid course combines online learning with an immersive, guided study tour abroad. This unique approach allows participants to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith through both academic study and lived experience.

The course begins with an introductory module, followed by a multi-day experiential learning journey abroad (e.g., Sicily and Malta), where participants will explore the rich historical, cultural, and spiritual heritage of the Catholic tradition. Guided by course facilitators, candidates will visit significant religious sites, engage in prayer and reflection, and participate in discussions that connect these experiences to contemporary Catholic education. This pilgrimage-style component fosters a profound sense of community and spiritual growth, setting the stage for meaningful learning throughout the course. Following the study tour, participants will continue their learning through interactive online modules.

• OCT Member in Good Standing or OCT applicant if new Ontario BEd graduate (Read more)
   
• Your teacher education program coursework and practicum must be successfully completed before registration

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This experiential learning course invites participants to explore Catholic faith, history, and pedagogy through travel in Sicily and Malta. Educators will engage with key themes including the journey of faith, Scripture, sacramental and liturgical life, community, and Catholic social teaching within authentic cultural and historical contexts. Through guided site visits, reflective discussions, and collaborative learning, participants will examine how faith is lived and expressed across diverse communities. 

The course will also address inclusive practices, student identity, and social justice, encouraging educators to translate their experiences into meaningful classroom applications. By connecting global perspectives with local practice, participants will deepen their role as Catholic educators committed to fostering belonging, engagement, and faith formation in their schools.

• OCT Member in Good Standing
   
• Completion of Part 1
   
• 194 days teaching experience completed before the course start date - days of teaching can only be counted after you become a certified teacher
