Call for Proposals
Kawartha Teaching and Tech Conference

Trent University
Call for proposals due: December 16, 2022
Conference date: February 23, 2023.
Participation in the conference will be free.

We invite you to submit your proposal for consideration by the KTT Conference Program Committee. All abstract submissions should align with the themes of the conference, and suggested topics below.

Not all those who wander are lost:
designing learning adventures through teaching & tech

How do we engage students by design? What does it mean to design learning adventures through teaching and technology? An adventure can imply a journey of unknown outcome which may involve both risk and growth. How can we apply this mindset to making the best use of technology to support student learning, provide greater access to education, and model more inclusive practices which promote engagement in learning experiences? This conference aims to unpack the relationship between pedagogy and technology in supporting all learners, how the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) can be activated to engage students, how experiential learning outcomes can be harnessed, and how offbeat, fun, or surprising approaches to technology and pedagogy can impact student learning. Come and help us explore.

The conference will be offered hyflex (simultaneously in-person and online) and will be free to all participants. Please indicate how you plan to deliver your session in your proposal.

Suggested session topics:

1. Everyone's invited: How do you apply principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to create engagement through design in learning experiences?

2. An experience to remember: Whether learning is happening inside or outside a traditional classroom setting, how can we harness engagement and reinforce learning outcomes?

3. Postcards from the virtual highway: Where have your journeys with educational tech taken you that are worth sharing with others?

4. Off the beaten path: What have you tried as a teacher or learner that is whacky and fun but effective in the best possible way?

Choose your own adventure! Why stick to the plan when there is so much more to discover? Give us your best wildcard presentation idea!

Session Type

All sessions are invited to fit into one of the following session formats.  You will be asked to select your session format when submitting your abstract. If you have an idea for a session that falls outside of these formats and session lengths, please don’t hesitate to suggest it in your submission.

Regular sessions [20min]:
All regular sessions at the conference include a presentation by one or more presenters.  Presentations should be no longer than 20 minutes.

Panel Sessions [40min]:
Panel sessions are discussion-based rather than presentation-based. Each panel session should consist of no less than 3 "presenters" along with an assigned moderator.  These sessions will be 40 minutes in length.

Workshops [40min]:
A workshop is a short educational program designed to teach or introduce practical skills, techniques, or ideas. There should be a plan to allow participants to practice the new skill or exchange ideas in smaller groups. This type of session could lend itself to technology demonstration where participants could participate in a hands-on demonstration of a particular technology in the classroom. These sessions will be 40 minutes in length.

Please include your bio, proposal and session type here. If you have any questions please contact Terry Greene, Senior eLearning Designer, Trent University - terrygreene@trentu.ca.
