As an exchange student at Trent University you are eligible to register in the same courses as our degree seeking students, with a few exceptions.
- You are NOT eligible to register in Nursing (NURS), Biomedical Sciences (BIOM), and Education (EDUC)
- You may take courses at the 1000, 2000, and 3000 level, but those at the 4000 level require special permission. If you would like to seek special permission please send studyabroad@trentu.ca an email with proof of prerequisites, as well as the name and code of the course you want to take at Trent. We will contact the appropriate department on your behalf.
It is YOUR responsibility to choose appropriate courses for your degree and communicate those choices with your home institution.
Course Selection
Trent's academic year is broken up into two 14-week semesters - The fall Semester (September to December), and the Winter Semester (January to April).
While participating in an Exchange at Trent you will generally be required to enrol in a full-time class schedule of 5 courses per semester. These courses can either be half-year or full-year in length. For each course you can expect about 4 hours of class time per week, during which you may attend a mixture of lectures, seminars, and laboratory hours.
After the end of each semester there is an exam period during which you will write final exams for the courses which require them.

Build your Timetable
Once you have reviewed the Course Calendar use the timetable located on MyTrent, under the "Registration" tab, to determine when the course is offered (during the WI = Winter or FA = Fall term), days the course is available, as well as who is teaching the course.

You can then begin to build your schedule using our self-service course registration platform, but do not submit anything.

The deadline to build your draft schedule online is: June 16th, 2025
Please send an email to studyabroad@trentu.ca confirming that you have completed your draft schedule. Enrolment in courses is not guaranteed. Courses must be manually enrolled by the Registrar's Office in order to override the prerequisites.
Failure to build your draft schedule before the deadline might result in you not being able to register in your preferred courses - courses fill up quickly and the Registrar has only guaranteed to manually input course schedules submitted before/on the June 16th deadline!
