Entrance Scholarships

National Renewable Entrance Scholarships for Canadian Students

If you are a top scholar with an average of 80% or higher, you qualify to automatically receive an entrance scholarship to Trent. Scholars with 95% or higher? You earn free first-year tuition – no application required.

Trent’s guaranteed (and renewable) national entrance scholarships are available for Canadian students entering first year at Trent from a Canadian secondary school and students who transfer from a minimum of two full-time semesters at another accredited Canadian post-secondary institution (University or College Diploma program and only College Certificate programs where a special agreement exists).   

Entrance scholarships are renewable provided the student maintains a minimum 80% average in a full course load during the previous academic year. This can really pay off – with a total scholarship potential of more than $18,000 over four years.

Scholarships for International Students

Scholarships for Home Schooled Students 

Only students who have objective, third-party grades, will be offered entrance scholarships.  

Students who are home schooled may qualify for scholarships if they have completed senior secondary school credits and are using 4U/4M, AP or IB marks as a basis for admission. Students who have written the SAT test will also be considered for scholarships based on the grade translation assessed by the Admissions Office.  

 


Eligibility Requirements 

Students new to Trent University with a final admission average of 80% are eligible to be considered for an entrance scholarship. 

Secondary Students: Canadian students entering first year at Trent from a Canadian secondary school with an admission average of 80% or higher.   

Transfer Students: Students who transfer from a minimum of two-full time semesters at another accredited Canadian post-secondary institution (University or College Diploma program and only College Certificate programs where a special agreement exists), with an admission average of 80% or higher.  

Students who are not eligible for entrance scholarships: 

  • Transfer from college certificate program
  • Part-time students
  • Non-degree seeking students
  • Mature students (e.g. out of high school for more than 2 years)
  • BED students 

Entrance Scholarship Details & Conditions  

  • Full tuition is equal to the value of tuition only for an Undergraduate, Bachelor of Arts and Science program.  Student levies, ancillary fees and housing costs are excluded. The full tuition scholarship value for the 2025/26 academic year is equal to $6118. If a student is in a program with a higher tuition fee, they will be responsible for the difference. 
  • Admission grade point average for incoming students is determined as follows:
    • Ontario High School student’s average is calculated by averaging the top 6 4U or 4M courses; not program specific.
    • Out-of-Province student’s average is based on undergraduate admission requirements.
    • Transfer students average is based on the cumulative average from previous institution attended.
  • Final scholarship amounts will be communicated to students by the Financial Aid office.
  • Students must meet one of following definitions of a full-time course load as of the final day to add courses for any term where they are receiving a scholarship.
    • at least 2.0 credits per term or
    • a reduced course load as an accommodation from Student Accessibility Services (SAS) or
    • a full-time experiential learning opportunity
  • To qualify for renewal, students must achieve an average of 80% during the previous academic year and complete a total of 5.0 Trent credits, or 3.0 Trent credits for students with a reduced course load as an accommodation from SAS.
