Trent Names New Head Coaches for Men`s and Women`s Varsity Soccer

Trent University Athletics announced the hiring of Stuart Robertson, as the new head coach for the Excalibur men`s soccer program, and Joe Muldoon as the new head coach for its women`s varsity soccer team.

Trent Names New Head Coaches for Men’s a Mr. Robertson is currently the head coach and technical director of the Darlington Soccer Club, and brings seven years of experience in this capacity managing a program with over 5,000 players and 350 coaches. His resume is bolstered by his coaching and playing experience in Britain and Europe including his work with both professional and national teams. Mr. Robertson’s credentials include a Provincial B licence.

Mr. Robertson begins his duties immediately in recruiting and preparing his team for the OUA in the fall of 2009.

Joe Muldoon brings to the University a long history of successful coaching in both youth competitive soccer in Peterborough and more recently in the Ontario Women’s Soccer League (OWSL). In 2008, his Peterborough City women’s team recorded their first undefeated season, gaining promotion to the OWSL Provincial League. In 2007, his OWSL U-21 women’s team went undefeated gaining promotion to the U-21 Regional League. Mr. Muldoon has extensive local high school coaching experience at COSSA, OFFSA and in the CISAA. In 2008, he coached the Lakefield College School U-16 girls who after an undefeated season won the 2008 Tier 2 CISAA Championship. He has coached teams in both the Central Soccer League and in the Central Girls Soccer League. Mr. Muldoon holds a Provincial pre-B licence and an NSCAA Goalkeeping Diploma.

Mr. Muldoon will be joined by Royston Brown as the assistant coach for the women’s team. Born in Bristol, England, Mr. Brown is head coach of the Ontario Soccer League (OSL) U-21 Peterborough City team. He is an exceptional midfielder who has played with the Peterborough City Men’s team in the Toronto and District First Division, Premier Division, and in the Ontario Soccer League over a 15-year period. He brings superior technical and tactical training skills to the program. He has coached teams in both the Central Soccer League and the Central Girls Soccer League, and is looking forward to the challenge of coaching in the Ontario University Athletics league. Mr. Brown holds a Provincial B licence.

Bill Byrick, Trent’s athletic director, was very pleased to welcome each of these impressive new coaches to the University’s varsity soccer team. “We are excited about the future of our soccer program. We have collectively built the program over the last four years and we will see continued success under the strong leadership of Stuart Robertson, Joe Muldoon and Royston Brown.”
