Trent’s groundbreaking Indigenous Environmental Studies/Science (IESS) degree program, offered jointly with the School of the Environment, is the first program of its kind in North America. This degree focuses on the interaction and collaboration of Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Euro-centric Knowledge Systems and offers two study pathways.
Trent’s forward-thinking Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems (SAFS) program helps to meet the growing demand for experts to address the global need for healthy, affordable, and sustainable food production.
As a student in this program, you will develop a firm understanding of food systems: how food is produced, distributed, and consumed, locally and around the world.
In these ECO Canada-accredited environmental programs, you have the flexibility to design a degree that fits your unique interests.
Trent’s Environmental Chemistry program introduces you to the formation of chemicals, how they interact with and cycle through the environment, and the impact of contaminants on ecosystems.
In this program, you will acquire fundamental technical skills in chemical analysis and apply them to issues of pollution, pest control, climate change, and toxicology analyses.
You will also benefit from experiential learning, research, and work placement opportunities in both the School of the Environment and Trent’s diverse Chemistry department.
Explore the interactions between people and the physical environment through either the B.A. or B.Sc. pathways of this popular degree program.
B.A. students focus their studies on how people encounter and shape their environments, while B.Sc. students examine the human and natural forces that shape the physical world, investigating topics in climate, hydrology, natural hazards, soils, and earth materials.
As one of the first ECO Canada accredited environmental programs in the country, Trent’s B.E.S.S. degree is renowned for developing well-rounded graduates. Students in this degree take courses from both the arts and sciences and gain a comprehensive approach to studying the environment.
Freshwater is essential for all life on Earth. The Trent Water Sciences degree gives students the knowledge and skills needed to respond to modern challenges contributing to water quality decline in Canada and around the world.
In this program, you will complete a series of practical and theoretical courses to build fundamental knowledge for examining the science of water and the aquatic environment from four primary subjects: biology, chemistry, geography, and environmental science.
With experiential learning at its core, Trent’s Environmental Geoscience degree introduces students to advanced topics in resource extraction across multiple disciplines in geology, biology, chemistry, mathematics and geography, with guidance from leading field experts.
In this program, you will receive specialized geoscience training while you develop hands-on skills in field methods, mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, and geophysics.
