Trent’s forward-thinking Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems (SAFS) program helps to meet the growing demand for experts to address the global need for healthy, affordable, and sustainable food production.
As a student in this program, you will develop a firm understanding of food systems: how food is produced, distributed, and consumed, locally and around the world.
Through either the B.A. or B.Sc. pathways, you’ll have opportunities to get hands-on exposure to sustainable farming and ethical practices, particularly in the Trent Farm, while learning how to influence a future of food systems that are responsible, justice-oriented, efficient, effective, and viable.
Accelerated Masters
Fast-track your education, by earning your M.Sc. in Environmental & Life Sciences in only 12-20 months of graduating from your Honours B.Sc.
Work to advance the study of sustainable agriculture in real-time by getting your hands dirty in Trent’s rooftop gardens and on the Trent Farm, located right on campus.
- Join the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems Society, Trent Apiary, or Food Services Sustainability Committee
- Join a new crop of entrepreneurs working in the Trent Farm, Trent Market Garden or Trent Vegetable Garden, providing fresh vegetables to campus cafeterias and local farmers’ markets, or volunteer with the student-run organic café, The Seasoned Spoon
- Work alongside leading experts in agricultural businesses and community organizations as you explore real-world implications of topics like small-scale food production and local food movements

Requirements
If you are coming straight from high school in Ontario or are a recent grad, the general admission requirements are:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
- A minimum of six Grade 12 4U or 4M courses, including program specific prerequisites
- A minimum 70% overall final average
- ENG 4U with a minimum of 60%
Program specific requirement:
- SBI4U for the B.Sc. degree program
