Prof. Peter Bernath
Prof. Bernath is both a a chemist and a physicist who has worked for many years in the fields of laser spectroscopy and atmospheric chemistry. His main research activities encompass pollution monitoring through satellite measurements, gas-phase inorganic chemistry, and molecular astronomy, and are all currently “hot-topics” in the physical and environmental sciences. He has published over 500 refereed papers within these fields. He is currently Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Old Dominion University, VA, and also the Mission Scientist for the Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment (ACE) on board the Canadian satellite SCISAT-I.
He is visiting Trent for one week in February when he will give undergraduate lectures within each of the Physics & Astronomy, Chemistry, Environmental and Resource Studies and Geography departments. Peter will also give a public lecture in the Bagnani Lecture Hall at Traill college on the subject of measuring air pollution and climate change from low earth orbit.
Peter will return to Trent in May/June 2013 to participate in research seminar series within the departments listed above, and to take part in research discussions involving graduate students and undergraduate project students in the Materials Science, Environmental and Life Sciences, and Applied Modelling and Quantitative Methods graduate programs.
Peter's visit is being hosted by the Otonabee College, Catharine Parr Traill College, and the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
