Animal Care Committee (ACC) Notice of Summer Hiatus

Submit your AUP for review by May 29th

Please be advised that the Animal Care Committee (ACC) will not meet over July and August. Anyone with teaching or research projects occurring over those months and the beginning of the fall academic year are encouraged to submit protocol applications for the April, May or June meetings.

Only emergency submissions will be reviewed over the hiatus. An emergency is defined as an unforeseen teaching or research opportunity. Trent is limited in how many of these types of reviews are permitted and reviewers handle material remotely over these months. As such, a review timeline over the hiatus is not guaranteed.

Please visit the Research Committees website for submission due dates.

Research Ethics Board (REB) Notice of Summer Hiatus

Submit your file for review by June 3rd

Please note the REB will not meet over July and August. Researchers are encouraged to make submissions for Summer and early Fall research projects in time for the April, May and June review cycles. Fall courses using human participant research strategies for pedagogical purposes are also encouraged to have protocols submitted before the end of the 2025/26 academic year.

Graduate student research will be reviewed as needed by the Chair of the REB over the summer months. Faculty research requiring review over the summer is considered an emergency review. Response time to emergency reviews will depend on the availability of the REB Chair and the assessment of risk for the given research project (only minimum risk research can be approved over the summer).

GROW Program

Open Access Publishing: Practical Insights

Presented by Trent University Library & Archives

Wednesday, April 22, 2026, 1:00 - 2:00 pm

Register for this event.

Open access publishing is an effective way to increase the visibility and impact of your research, contribute to the broader public good, and comply with grant requirements. While article processing charges (APCs) are sometimes associated with open access and can be costly, many cost-effective strategies are available - the key is planning ahead. This session will explore practical options such as no-fee publishing models, sharing through scholarly repositories, the use of pre-prints and accessing APC discounts.

Getting Started with ORCID: Streamlining Attribution and Your Academic Record

Presented by Trent University Library & Archives

Wednesday, April 29, 2026, 1:00 - 2:00 pm

Register for this event.

An ORCID iD (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from other researchers and ensures your professional and research outputs are accurately attributed. It also works as an online CV, making it a natural complement to the new narrative CV format required by Canada’s Tri Agency funding councils. This session will introduce the benefits of ORCID, show you how to create and populate your own ORCID iD and record, and highlight ways to integrate it into your research and publication workflows.

Understanding and Using Scholarly Metrics Responsibly

Presented by Trent University Library & Archives

Thursday, April 30, 2026, 1:00 - 2:00 pm

Register for this event

This session will explore the landscape of quantitative scholarly metrics and their role in research assessment. It will cover the definition and purpose of scholarly metrics, highlight commonly used indicators such as citation counts, the h-index, and journal impact factors, and examine the strengths and limitations of each. The session will also address the broader context in which these metrics are used, emphasizing the importance of responsible and informed application.

Reminder: SSHRC Connection Grant (CG)

SSHRC is accepting applications for the Connection Grant. There are four in-takes/deadlines per year.

These grants support knowledge dissemination events and outreach activities geared toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives. Connection Grants support workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes or other events or outreach activities that facilitate:

  • disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary exchange of research in the social sciences and humanities.

  • scholarly exchanges of knowledge between those working in the social sciences and humanities and those working in other research fields.

  • intersectoral exchanges of knowledge between academic researchers in the social sciences and humanities and researchers and practitioners from the public, private and/or not-for-profit sectors; and/or

  • international research collaboration and scholarly exchanges with researchers, students and non-academic partners from other countries.

Note: SSHRC will not fund the full cost of any Connection Grant project. Additional support in the form of eligible cash and/or in-kind contributions (excluding registration fees) equivalent to a minimum of 50% of the amount requested from SSHRC must come from sponsoring organizations. Letters of support are required.

Applications are due to SSHRC by May 1, 2026. The next deadline is August 4, 2026. Complete applications are due internally at least 10 business days in advance.

Reminder: SSHRC Destination Horizon Grants

SSHRC is accepting applications to the Destination Horizon Grants for social science and humanities researchers to build capacity, foster existing partnerships, and further develop networks and/or consortia with European Union and other “associated countries” researchers, with the ultimate goal of applying to Horizon Europe—Pillar II calls for proposals. These are not grants to conduct research or to implement existing Horizon Europe projects. Similar to the SSHRC Connection grants, proposals are expected to respond to the objectives of the Research Partnerships program. Destination Horizon Grants are valued at up to $15,000 for one year and must be fully matched by cash contributions from the host institution (Trent).

There is a required notice of intent for interested applicants:

  • Notify ORI of your intention to submit by emailing researchsupport@trentu.ca by March 30.

Reminder: Horizon Europe 2026-2027 Funding Opportunities and Useful Links

The European Commission has published the Horizon Europe work program (i.e. funding opportunities) for 2026-2027. More information is available here: Horizon Europe work programs for 2026-2027 published | EURAXESS.

Information on Canadian participation in Horizon Europe (eligibility, consortium building and process to apply) is available here: How to apply to Horizon Europe.

Currently open funding is listed, and applications are submitted, through the Calls for proposals | EU Funding & Tenders Portal. This search tool is helpful for finding potential consortium partners: EU Funding & Tenders Portal

Reminder: Transition to Tri-Agency CV for 2027 Discovery Horizons and Arthur B. McDonald Fellowships

The Tri-Agency CV will no longer limit applicants to a six-year window, allowing contributions and experiences from the entire career to be showcased in the Tri-Agency CV. Discovery Horizons has been utilizing a narrative CV for the past 4 competitions, facilitating the transition. For the McDonald fellowship, this transition will be accompanied by other changes to the nomination package to reduce overlap. More information is available here, or by emailing TCV-CVTO@NSERC-CRSNG.GC.CA.
