TOMORROW: Horizon Europe and Canada Bridging the Atlantic: Matchmaking Event
Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service is inviting researchers to attend the first-ever Horizon Europe and Canada Online Matchmaking Event: Bridging the Atlantic – Greentech 2024, on October 9th at 10:30 am EST. Those interested in attending must register in advance.
Canada’s Mission to the European Union is working closely with EIT Global Outreach, the global arm of the European Institute of Innovation & Technology, along with EIT Climate-KIC, EIT Food and EIT Manufacturing and Cluster 5 National Contact Points (NCPs) from Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland the UK, who all will be inviting their respective networks to participate in this online matchmaking event. This event will be recorded and shared.
You’re Invited – 2024 Fulbright Research Chair Welcome Reception
The School for the Study of Canada and the Office of Research and Innovation invite faculty and staff for light refreshments as we welcome Dr. Holly Karibo, the 2024 Fulbright Research Chair in Comparative Canadian and American Studies at Trent University on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 3:00 pm in the Pit, Lady Eaton College.
Holly M. Karibo is an associate professor of History and Director of Graduate Studies at Oklahoma State University. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on the history of vice, labour, and sexuality in transnational urban spaces from the late 19th century to the present.
This event will include a talk by Dr. Karibo about her recent book and research in an informal setting.

Invitation for Researchers – Test the Alliance Cloud Connect Pilot Program
The Digital Research Alliance of Canada is inviting researchers to apply to test the Alliance Cloud Connect Pilot (ACCP). The goal of this call is to engage the Canadian research community in the testing and refinement of the services and capabilities developed through the ACCP. This is an opportunity for the research community to be part of a cutting-edge initiative that will transform the long-term strategy for cloud computing in Canadian research. Participants will get early access to the ACCP platform services and provide feedback on the services at a critical time in their development.
This call is open to all Canadian researchers who currently use or need community cloud or advanced research computing services.
Applications must be submitted by October 15th 2024.

Funding Opportunities
Habitat Stewardship Program for Species at Risk (HSP)
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is accepting applications to the Habitat Stewardship Program for Species at Risk. The HSP provides funds for Canadian projects that help protect and recover species at risk. ECCC funds HSP projects on terrestrial species at risk. The following species are eligible for funding under ECCC’s HSP:
- Species listed on Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act (SARA) (except those listed as extirpated).
- Species that have been designated by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) as endangered, threatened, or special concern but that are not listed on Schedule 1 of SARA.
To be eligible, proposed projects must demonstrate how they contribute directly to the recovery objectives and population goals of target species.

Indigenous Partnerships for Species at Risk (IPSAR)
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is accepting applications to the Indigenous Partnerships for Species at Risk program. The program supports Indigenous applicants in their efforts to protect and recover species at risk and preserve their habitats on Indigenous lands and territories. Projects must support and promote the conservation, protection, and recovery of target species and their habitats on Indigenous lands or lands where traditional food, social, and ceremonial activities are carried out by Indigenous Peoples.
Applications are due by October 30, 2024. Internal deadlines are 10 business days in advance.

Amazon Research Awards Fall 2024
Amazon has released a call for proposals to their Amazon Research Awards Fall 2024 competition. Five streams are open:
- Sustainability – notable areas of interest: validating sustainability date at scale, machine learning applications for LCA, data-driven sustainable product design and manufacturing, climate risk assessment, biodiversity, lower-carbon cement and concrete, responsible supply chain, CO2 mineralization.
- AI for Information Security
- Automated Reasoning
- AWS AI
- AWS Cryptography

Mitacs Globalink Research Award Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)
Mitacs is accepting applications from PhD students and postdoctoral fellows to the JSPS program. The program provides opportunities for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows in Canada to pursue collaborative research in Japan, receiving an orientation on Japanese culture and research systems, as well as enabling them to pursue research under the guidance of host researchers at a Japanese university or research institute over two months during the summer of 2025.

Webinars
Research Security Centre Webinars – October and December 2024
The Research Security Centre is offering a series of safeguarding science webinars between October and December 2024. The webinars aim to assist participants in:
- accessing guidance and tools to strengthen security posture.
- understanding best practices to identify and mitigate research security threats.
- pursuing and maintaining safe research partnerships.
- maintaining the institutional reputation of a safe research organization; and
- protecting valuable research, data or potentially patentable property.
Each Webinar has a limit of 250 participants. Registration is required and must be done so using a university or professional email address. Otherwise, your registration may be denied.

SSHRC Partnership Engage Grant (PEG) Information Session
The ORI will be hosting a virtual information session about the SSHRC Partnership Engage Grant (PEG). This session will provide an overview of the PEG program. We will focus on the requirements of PEG applications, describing individual elements such as project descriptions and budgets, and discussing best practices and common pitfalls for each. Also covered will be the requirements of the partner organization, including the contributions and letter of support that the partner must provide. Time will be set aside at the end of the session for questions about the program.
