Trent’s world-class researchers, along with our outstanding research, invention and innovation records, have allowed us to form long-standing relationships with communities, not-for-profits, business and industries to help solve real-world problems for Canadians and people worldwide. This has made the University a welcoming community to potential partners.
The economic and social value of innovation, invention and knowledge being transferred to communities, entrepreneurs, and industries has been well-documented. Trent University contributes by supporting its researchers and partners though a variety of services, including collaborative research projects, serving as the central contact for getting in touch with our experts in specific fields of research, students or our research centres, and providing information on accessing Trent’s state-of-the-art equipment and analytical services.

Core Services
Community Engagement/Knowledge Mobilization
We support our researchers who wish to participate in joint research with community groups, not-for-profit organizations and the government. Trent University understands the importance of research and knowledge reaching a wide audience, and therefore provides researchers with the necessary resources to reach these audiences through platforms such as the Virtual Researcher on Call program. By sharing its research and knowledge with a broader audience, Trent hopes to have an impact on policy development and on improving the services and products that will benefit all of society.
Industry Engagement
The synergy between the work of universities and industry has led to a significant increase in partnerships between these sectors. At Trent, the Office of Research & Innovation plays a leading role in facilitating agreements between the University’s researchers and potential industry partners – ensuring that parties reach an agreement that is beneficial to all. The Office of Research & Innovation can also assist with funding requests for these partnerships (e.g. NSERC grants, Ontario Centre of Innovation programs, Mitacs, and federal or provincial funding).
For any questions on researcher expertise please contact the Office of Research & Innovation.
Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation Centre
Start-up enterprises are a welcome addition to local economy, bringing new investment and creating jobs in the region. Trent University is collaborating with the Innovation Cluster for Peterborough and the Kawarthas to support entrepreneurs and start-ups by providing them with access to resources, education, and space to incubate their growing companies. Trent offers the FastStart program to help educate students about the potential of entrepreneurship as a career pathway, connect young entrepreneurs with mentors and professional advisors and providing a variety of support services.
