Trent University Stands in Support of an Independent Ukraine

Donations to Trent Fund will provide assistance to students affected by the conflict

Trent University stands in support of an independent Ukraine. We call upon the world to take measures to end the egregious violence against a peaceful nation and bring about a return to peace and democracy.

Our campuses include students, faculty and staff from Ukraine and Russia as well as those who have ties to family, friends and colleagues in both countries. The University has reached out to those students who are directly affected by the conflict and is providing services and financial support.

Today, we are initiating a fundraising campaign focused on helping Trent students who are affected. We welcome donations to the Trent Fund to assist students in financial difficulty as a result of funds frozen in their home country. Please go to trentu.ca/give to make a donation.

The President’s Office is providing $10,000 in matching funds for donations to this Fund. Financial Aid will also release funds to assist with tuition fees, books and food, and distribute gift cards for groceries through Trent International.

The University is prioritizing applications from students in Ukraine and working closely with IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) as well as our colleagues across the province and the country to find ways to help members of our campus community in Ukraine.

If you are looking for other ways to support efforts for the people of Ukraine, we recommend the following reputable organizations doing good work:

  • Canadian Red Cross: Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal

  • UNICEF: Emergency Response to Conflict in Eastern Ukraine

  • United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR): Ukraine Emergency

  • Canada-Ukraine Foundation: Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal

If you feel the need for assistance or a listening ear, we encourage you to reach out to the services and supports available to you.
