Event Details

  • Monday, December 2, 2024
    3:00 PM - 4:15 PM
    City: Peterborough
    Trent University
    Building: Student Centre
    Room: TSC 1.07

Indaanikesidoonaa indaadibaajimowinan: Expanding the Stories We Tell is a collaboration between the Ontario Heritage Trust (OHT) and professors in Indigenous Studies at Trent.

This event will highlight the work of first-year students, particularly those in the Indigenous Course Requirement, INDG 1001: Foundations of Reconciliation, who have undertaken the creation of new historical plaques that bring forward Indigenous stories and perspectives as part of their final projects. The event aims to promote meaningful conversations around the commemoration of Indigenous stories, lands, and cultures across the province. Through experiential learning with members of the OHT team, students will present their proposals for either an “Indigenized” revision of an existing plaque or the creation of a new plaque centred on the themes of Indigenous heritage.

Later that evening, Trent University and OHT will be hosting a keynote featuring Dr. Cody Groat (Western University) on provincial and federal commemoration. This event aims to promote meaningful conversations around the commemoration of Indigenous stories, lands, and cultures across the province. Please join us online for the talk on Zoom beginning at 7:00 p.m.
