The School for the Study of Canada welcomes everyone to the premiere of a short film as a culminating event of the CAST 50th Anniversary year.

Written and directed by Natalie Vaughan-Graham, "The World as We Know it is Always Ending" follows the experiences of students of all ages, from many faculties, in a summer course called “Canada: the Land.”  Their story became much more than an example of a class at Trent University.  It’s a story about what young people worry about, their desires to transform, their fears and their frustrations, and how differences can be reconciled when we are all asked to stop, listen, be slow. It’s certainly not easy but together they created a piece that is important for all to hear.

Canada: the Land is a flagship course of the Canadian Studies Program and has had a transformative role for not only Canadian Studies majors but many interdisciplinary students at Trent since its development by Prof. John Wadland.

Natalie Vaughan-Graham is Trent alumna (2019), with a degree in Indigenous Studies.  Her previous film project for coursework at Trent, “From Your Neighbour,” was an official selection for the Indie Short Fest (2021).

Doors open at 6:30 with live music provided by Irish Millie and Murray Shadgett. The film screening begins at 7 pm, followed by a panel discussion. There will also be a door prize for a CAST 50th Anniversary Prize pack.

The School is grateful for the support of Trent’s Careerspace, the Province of Ontario's Summer Employment Opportunities Program and Trent Work Study Program, as well as the Northway Canadian Studies Endowed Fund (a bequest from Mary Northway) and the Alan & Budge Wilson CAST 50th Anniversary Fund in the creation of this project.

For those who would like to support creative projects for Canadian Studies coursework in the future, contributions to the Alan & Budge Wilson Anniversary Fund are welcomed.
