In its fifth year, Continuing Education at Trent University’s Traill College is aiming to help members of the Peterborough community reconnect with the rewards of learning something new by offering a variety of popular and new course options this spring.

This season’s curriculum, which runs from March 16 through to May, comprises more than 20 course and workshop options that span topics in language, arts, nature and home improvement. From American Sign Language, to Watercolour Painting, to Birding Basics, the curriculum appeals to those who are looking to have some fun and those looking for something practical.

“For people who may have been out of school or other lessons for a long time, it’s easy to forget how fulfilling learning a new skill or hobby can be,” says Dr. Michael Eamon, director of Continuing Education at Trent University and principal of Traill College. “We want to help our community rediscover the excitement that comes with stepping outside of your comfort zone, or daily schedule, and showcase Trent’s advocacy for lifelong learning. These courses are fun and affordable and great opportunities to find personal time or to spend time with friends and family, and go a long way to enrich daily life.”

Registration is now open for classes, which are available in a “choose-your-own-adventure” model. Participants can mix-and-match individual classes, or register for a six or eight-week course series. Courses are offered Monday through Friday evenings 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. or on select Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

In addition to the course offerings, the Continuing Education curriculum features several weekend workshops facilitated by members of the community. Spring workshops include Professional Development topics, Property Management, and Wildlife and Ecotravel Photography.

Community members can register for spring courses in person or over the phone (with cash, credit card or cheque) at the Traill College office in Scott House, 300 London Street. Classes are $30 each (including HST) when registering before March 13 and $40 each (including HST) after the pre-registration date. Workshops range between $45 and $165 (including HST) depending on length and materials.
