Jaleesa Allen '18 reflects on her growth at Trent Durham GTA and the power of community in healing and chasing bold ambitions

In 2024, Jaleesa Allen ‘18 received the Young Leader Alumni Award, recognizing her compassionate leadership and efforts to advance social justice for young people from marginalized and vulnerable communities.

As a clinical social worker and psychotherapist, Jaleesa takes seriously the trust her young clients place in her. Working in a Greater Toronto Area hospital with children and adolescents, she is a source of support, and a witness and advocate. A mature student who returned to school after time away, she credits Trent for giving her the confidence to pursue graduate education and a career rooted in care and advocacy.

Watch Jaleesa’s full interview to hear how her journey has been shaped by resilience, reflection, and community.
