Downloadable show ‘n go pass eliminates thousands of plastic cards & yearly student lineups

Smart technology, ease and convenience, and the added benefits of a more sustainable option – bus passes at Trent just received a makeover. Thanks to a pilot project between Trent University, the Trent Central Student Association (TCSA) and the City of Peterborough, the University is the first post-secondary campus in Canada to implement a digital transit pass for students.

"Our new digital transit pass is an effort to keep transit service in the palm of student’s hands,” explains Brandon Remmelgas, president of the TCSA. “Our goal is to prevent students from having to carry around a different card for each service they need to access, and it has the added bonus of reducing the number of plastic cards being printed on an annual basis.”

Since rolling out in September, over 4,000 passes have been downloaded from the digital ID card app available on the Apple App Store or Google Play. Approximately 7,000 plastic cards, lost passes and long, annual lineups for renewal at the Trent Card Office will be gone in the flash of a show ‘n go digital pass for each and every bus ride.

Created by tech company ID 123, the passes are renewable online each year. Trent students must be enrolled in at least 1.5 credits to be eligible.
