Trent University students encouraged to join university and college students across Ontario in completing the survey

Student voices on sexual violence

Full-time students at Trent University and across Ontario will now have received an email invitation to participate in the Student Voices on Sexual Violence survey, which opened February 26.

The survey, administered by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD), is the largest survey of students in the history of Ontario. More than 650,000 full-time university and college students are being asked to provide feedback on sexual violence, campus safety and unwanted sexual experiences.

The anonymous survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete and asks questions about the participant’s perspective on, and experience with, sexual violence.

Trent University recognizes that participation in this survey may be difficult for some and would like to remind students that Counselling Services in Peterborough and Durham and Trent’s Sexual Violence Coordinator continue to be available to any student who needs support throughout the survey and at any time. Additionally, the survey website contains support information available to participants throughout the survey.

Participation in the survey will help provide the University and province with information to further address sexual violence and help inform effective sexual violence response and education. Data collected will be compiled into a provincial report. All responses will be kept strictly confidential.

The survey will be available for completion until March 26, 2018. The Province has engaged CCI Research to conduct the survey and participants will receive their choice of a $5 electronic gift card as appreciation for their time.

Trent joins all Ontario universities in the prevention of sexual violence, and helping survivors get the help they need. We encourage all full-time students to participate in the survey, which has approval from Trent University’s Research Ethics Board.

To learn more and to complete the survey, visit the Student Voices on Sexual Violence website.
