Screen-writing, corn smut, synthetic blood, and avid kayaking – a few hidden talents and innovations at Trent that were featured in this year’s Maclean’s Magazine university rankings edition.

Research by Trent University Ph.D. candidate, Theresa Stotesbury was one of Trent’s many innovations showcased by Maclean’s. After completing her B.Sc. at Trent University and pursuing a Masters degree abroad, Ms. Stotesbury has returned to Trent for the Materials Science program and is currently working on creating a synthetic blood substitute that can be used for simulations in an educational setting.

Others featured included Trent University Forensics professor, Dr. Barry Saville and Trent University Durham History professor, Dr. Robert Wright. Professor Saville’s research collaborates with the Peterborough community to explore ways in which corn truffle also known as huitlacoche can be brought from the lab to Canadian farmers’ markets. As an award-winning screenwriter, Professor Wright is best known for his film “Our Man in Tehran” and has been making recent headlines as his newest book, “Trudeaumania: The Rise to Power of Pierre Elliott Trudeau” rises to the top of the bestsellers list.
