INDG 6603H: Indigenous Thought
*It is recommended to start the Indigenous Language Requirement.

November: Mandatory meeting for all first-year students to discuss INDG 6715: Bimaadiziwin/Atonhnhetsherí:io and/or INDG 6700H: Practicum Field Placement

Term Two (Jan to April)
INDG 6600Y: Indigenous Knowledge (Continued)
*Start planning for INDG6715H: Bimaadiziwin/Atonhnhetsherí:io and/or INDG 6700H: Practicum Field Placement

April: Virtual pre-concept meeting with Traditional Council for INDG 6715H: Bimaadiziwin/Atonhnhetsherí:io

Term Three (May-Aug)

Year Two

Term Two (Jan to April)
INDG 6701Y: Dissertation Research Course (cont.)
Program Milestone: Core Comprehensive Written Exam (January or August exam times)
Program Milestone: Complete Bimaadizwin/Atonhnhetsherí:io
*Start planning for INDG 6700Y: Practicum Field Placement

Term Three (May-Aug)
Program Milestone: (May or early June) Oral Exam in Indigenous Knowledge
Program Milestone (July-August): Finalize Proposal for Defence and Ethics Application
Program Milestone: Assemble Dissertation/Knowledge Basket Committee

*Note that all first year and second year course work (apart from INDG 6715 and INDG 6700) must be completed before students are eligible to take the Comprehensive Examinations.

*Students must successfully pass both the written and oral comprehensive examinations before defending a dissertation proposal.


Year Three

Term One
INDG 6700Y: Practicum Field Placement (to be completed by Term three)
Program Milestone: Dissertation/Knowledge Basket Proposal Defence (within 6 months of completing Core Comprehensive Exam)
Expected Program Milestone: Ethics Approval
* It is recommended to start the Indigenous Language Requirement if it has not been completed.

Term Two
(April) Cohort Check-in Meeting

Term Three
Expected Program Milestone: Research and Dissertation writing/Knowledge Basket Project creative work and writing
Program Milestone: Complete INDG6700: Practicum Field Placement
*Ensure Indigenous Language Requirement is complete.

Year Four

Term One, Two, Three (Sept to Aug)
Expected Program Milestone: Completion of Monograph Dissertation or Knowledge Basket Dissertation
Expected Program Milestone: Dissertation Defence or Round Table Examination
