Specialization in Gender, Law, and Human Rights Advocacy
Specialization in Gender, Law, and Human Rights Advocacy is designed for students in Gender & Social Justice or Human Rights & Global Justice who are interested in the intersections of gender and human rights. It provides a foundation in human rights legal and institutional frameworks, feminist methodologies, and advocacy strategies for addressing gender-based violence, discrimination, care labour, and economic inequality. Gender & Social Justice students will explore how human rights law shapes gender justice, while Human Rights & Global Justice students will engage with feminist perspectives on law, policy, and social change. Students choosing to participate in the Trent in Bolivia study abroad program will also gain experiential learning opportunities in the Global South.
Specialization in Global Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Social Change
The Specialization in Global Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Social Change is designed for students in Business Administration or Global Development Studies with an interest in global social change. It equips students with the knowledge and skills to better navigate the global economy and to appreciate the promise and limitations of social entrepreneurship and innovation in the Global South.
Specialization in Global Migration and Refugee Studies
The specialization allows students to gain hands-on experience through community-based research and study abroad opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of cross-border population movements, the causes and impact of displacement and forced migration, migrant experiences, human rights work, governance, settlement, and citizenship – both in Canada and around the world.
Specialization in International Law & Policy
The Specialization in International Law and Policy is designed for students in Human Rights & Global Justice, Global Development Studies, or Political Studies who are interested in the intersections of law, governance, and global justice. The specialization provides a foundation in international legal frameworks, political institutions, and policy processes that shape economic and social systems. Through an interdisciplinary approach, Human Rights & Global Justice students will gain deeper insights into the political and policy dynamics that influence influencing human rights and global governance. Meanwhile, Political Studies students will explore the role of law and human rights institutions in shaping international relations and justice. Experiential learning opportunities, including policy-focused courses and placements, enable students to apply legal and political analysis to pressing international and global challenges, preparing them for careers in law, diplomacy, public policy, and international organizations.
