Specialization in Gender, Law, and Human Rights Advocacy

Specialization in Gender, Law, and Human Rights Advocacy is designed for students in Gender & Social Justice or Human Rights & Global Justice who are interested in the intersections of gender and human rights. It provides a foundation in human rights legal and institutional frameworks, feminist methodologies, and advocacy strategies for addressing gender-based violence, discrimination, care labour, and economic inequality. Gender & Social Justice students will explore how human rights law shapes gender justice, while Human Rights & Global Justice students will engage with feminist perspectives on law, policy, and social change. Students choosing to participate in the Trent in Bolivia study abroad program will also gain experiential learning opportunities in the Global South.

Specialization in International Law & Policy

The Specialization in International Law and Policy is designed for students in Human Rights & Global Justice, Global Development Studies, or Political Studies who are interested in the intersections of law, governance, and global justice. The specialization provides a foundation in international legal frameworks, political institutions, and policy processes that shape economic and social systems. Through an interdisciplinary approach, Human Rights & Global Justice students will gain deeper insights into the political and policy dynamics that influence influencing human rights and global governance. Meanwhile, Political Studies students will explore the role of law and human rights institutions in shaping international relations and justice. Experiential learning opportunities, including policy-focused courses and placements, enable students to apply legal and political analysis to pressing international and global challenges, preparing them for careers in law, diplomacy, public policy, and international organizations.
