José González Güel is a lawyer deeply committed to human rights, equity, and accessibility. He holds a Masters of Laws (LL.M.) from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University and has been a member of the Law Society of Ontario since 2014.
As a Human Rights Advisor at Trent University, José leads the management of discrimination and harassment complaints, supports institutional investigations and mediations, and ensures compliance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and accessibility legislation. He has worked on a wide variety of legal matters - ranging from litigation and dispute resolution, to legal compliance and advocacy - in Ontario, Nunavut, and Mexico.
José holds a Law Teaching Certificate, an Advanced Workplace Investigations from Osgoode Hall Law Schoool, as well as a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University. He is currently pursuing a MAster of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance at Niagara University and is fluent in Spanish and French.
A dedicated contributor to both the legal and academic communities, José serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors at the Durham Region Law Association and regularly mentors law students. He is a member of the Ontario Network of Accessibility Professionals and the Canadian Association for the Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment in Higher Education. He previously chaired the Ombuds Committee at Toronto Metropolitan University.
José will join the Trent Board of Governors, occupying a Staff seat for a two-year term, commencing July 1, 2024.
