TAPIF

Teaching Assistant Program in France

TAPIF is a program that allows Canadian students that have completed at least 2 years of an undergraduate to live and work in France part-time for seven months. The program is a joint initiative of the French Ministry of Education, France Education International and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in Canada. With this program you can explore French language and culture while earning a part-time salary. Educators will help students to become comfortable speaking English. What is an assistant ?

Your role will be to improve your students’ confidence in spoken English through interactive and recreational activities. Students will also expect you to introduce them to Canadian culture. You will have to plan varied activities and games, using every day, real-life documents from Canada.

Who can apply ?

Citizenship : Candidates must be Canadian citizens residing in Canada at the time of application.
Age : Candidates must be between 20 and 35 years old on the start date of the program.
Background : Candidates must have completed the majority of their secondary and university studies in Canada.
Language skills : Proficiency in French is required (minimum B1 level on Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). French majors and minors are encouraged to apply.
Other : The selection process favors applicants who have prior experience teaching or working with children, teenagers and/or adults. This is not required, but all applicants should demonstrate at least an interest in education.

Program timeline

October to mid-February : Application available online
In March up to the beginning of April : Applications are processed and reviewed by the French Embassy and the CIEP
In April : Official notifications, positive or negative, are sent to the applicants by email
Between June and September : visa procedure
October 1st : contract starts
April 30th : contract ends

Posting

All contracts start October 1rst, and end April 30th every year.
French schools are located in 30 different administrative regions called académies (school board district). On your application form, you will be able to choose up to 3 académies. You may be posted anywhere within the whole académie.

You will also be able to choose between primary and secondary school.
