Courses

Required Courses

Our core courses – Public Texts (1) (ENGL 5005H), Public Texts (2) (ENGL 5007H) – and our Research & Professional Development Seminar (ENGL 5003H ) provide a rigorous intellectual focus on the theories, histories and methodologies central to the field of Public Texts.

Breadth is provided by our Colloquium (ENGL 5001H), in which you will be introduced to a wide range of scholars and professionals (e.g. archivists, librarians, printers, publishers, editors, booksellers, book designers) working both in the academic context and the wider community.

Each year we will also offer a range of elective courses, including at least one topic in each of the following 3 areas: the Material & Social Production of Texts, the Circulation of Texts, and Publics & Texts. The number of elective courses required will depend on whether you have opted to complete a Thesis, Major Research Paper, or Internship as part of your program of study.

NOTE: The Program has put together Guidelines for Marking Essays in the Public Texts Program, outlining its expectations for essays at the graduate level. Please familiarize yourself with this document and speak to your instructors about it if you have any questions.
