Trent University Policies, Procedures, Acts, and Agreements:

Discrimination and Harassment Policy & Procedure

The purpose of the Policy is to affirm Trent University’s commitment to compliance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and commitment to the goals of eliminating discriminatory barriers and providing a learning, working and residential environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. The Resolution Procedures to the Policy outline the process for making and resolving complaints related to discrimination and harassment.

Student Charter of Rights and Responsibilities

Trent University strives to provide a supportive environment in which all students have the opportunity to pursue their academic interests and to participate in extra-curricular and social activities. The University environment is necessarily tolerant of diverse ideas, points of view and interests.  The purpose of this Charter is to establish and inform students of their rights and responsibilities and to provide avenues for response to any issues regarding such rights and responsibilities. The Charter of Student Rights and Responsibilities outlines how we seek to create a supportive learning environment, address disruptive behaviours, and protect the safety, dignity and reputation of students and the community as a whole.

Trent University Charter of Students Rights and Responsibilities outlines the rights and responsibilities as students in promoting a safe and respectful learning environment. The charter affirms students' freedom of expression, association, and participation. With an emphasis on accountability and respect across the university community. As well provides clear procedures for addressing concerns 

Trent Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy

Trent University is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment, in which all members of the Trent Community are treated with respect and dignity. The purpose of this policy is to define Trent’s commitment to addressing workplace violence or threats of violence and harassment.

Trent University Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy outlines the university's commitment to a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment free from discrimination and harassment. This policy outlines definitions, responsibilities, and procedures for reporting, investigating, and resolving incidents in both formal and informal resolution.  

Trent University Collective Agreement (Academic Freedom)

The 2022-2025 Collective Agreement, between Trent university and Trent University facility (TUFA); outlines the universities committed to equity, freedom of speech, academic freedom, and inclusive employment practices.  

Free Speech Policy  

Trent university free speech policy, outlines the right of all community members to express diverse viewpoints, partake in peaceful assemblies, and partake in open but respectful debate. Trent university Free Speech policy is not absolute. This policy does not excuse hate speech, defamation, slander, or actions or speaking which violates the Human Rights Code; the Criminal Code of Canada; provincial regulations and Trent University’s Violence and Harassment policy. Trent reserves the right to deny access or remove persons who act in ways that compromise others 

Employment Equity Policy  

Trent University upholds fair, inclusive, and equitable employment in promoting equal opportunities, and upholds fair employment processes. This policy looks at eliminating discrimation through all aspects of employment, removing systematic barriers in recruiting, hiring, and training; specifically, for women, indigenous peoples, person with disability and visible minorities.  

Sexual Violence Prevention and Response

Trent University Sexual Violence Prevention and Response outlines the universities commitment to campus free of sexual violence, that prioritizes consent and the respect and dignity of others. Outlining prevention strategies, reporting options, and a trauma-informed approach through procedures.
