Minor in Economics

Single Major Honours in Mathematical Economics

Economics 1010H and 1020H are prerequisites for all other courses in Economics. A standing of C- (60%) or higher is required in Economics 1010H and 1020H for registration in upper year Economics courses. With the exception of Economics-Administration 2250H and Economics-Administration 2200H, two-thousand series courses in Economics are accepted as three-thousand level courses to meet the University requirements of a minimum number of three-thousand series courses.

It is strongly recommended for single-majors that Economics 3200H and Economics 3250H, and for joint-majors that Economics-Administration 2250H and Economics 3200H be completed before students enter their fourth quarter.


Single Major Honours Program 

The single-major Honours program consists of twenty credits. Minimum 9.5 credits in Economics, including: 

  • 1010H Introductory Microeconomics
  • 1020H Introductory Macroeconomics
  • 1250H* Math for Economics & Mgmt
  • 2000H Intermediate Microeconomics Theory I
  • 2010H Intermediate Macroeconomics Theory I
  • 2200H* Intro to Stats for Econ & Mgmt
  • 3000H Intermediate Microeconomic Theory II
  • 3010H Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory II
  • 3200H Econometrics
  • 3250H Mathematical Economics & Economic Models
  • 4000H Advanced Microeconomic Theory
  • 4041H Research Methodology in Economics
  • 4050H Advanced Macroeconomics

Plus: one three-thousand or four-thousand level Economics course credit and two additional credits in Economics. For the B.Sc., 14 science credits in the program as a whole.

  • 1110H Calculus I: Limits, Derivatives, and Integrals
  • 1120H Calculus Ii: Integrals and Series Integrals
  • 1350H Linear Algebra I Matrix Algebra
  • 1550H Introduction to Probability
  • 2110H Calculus III: Several Variables
  • 2560H Applied Statistics I
  • 3350H Linear Programming
  • 4251H or 4510H  

Plus one additional credit in Economics at the 3000-level or 4000-level
and two additional Economics credits in addition to the above
(excluding ECON-ADMN 2200H and ECON-ADMN 1250H).

The following courses are particularly suited to the Bachelor of Science 
in Mathematical Economics, and students may wish to consider them as 
electives: MATH 2150H, 2350H, 3700H, 3510H, 3560H, 3570H, 3610H, 4561H and 4563H

*indicates that courses of equivalent content can be substituted for Economics-Administration 1250H/2200H. This will be determined by the Department Chair.

Note: In order to be eligible to graduate with a B.Sc. degree, a student must have completed an Ontario Academic Course in Mathematics, or equivalent, or a university level Mathematics course.

ECON-ADMN 2200H and ECON 3200H fulfill the requirement for 1.0 MATH credit for the BSc in Economics.
