French as a Second Language Level 2

Take your French to the next level – speak, understand, and connect with confidence! Already know the basics? In just 6 weeks, this interactive micro-credential will help you speak more fluently about daily life, travel, and personal experiences; understand real French in conversations, videos, and announcements; read and write clear, short texts such as emails, messages, and descriptions; discover French-speaking cultures and communication styles; learn smarter using digital tools and self-study strategies.

Course Objectives:

Speaking Skills

  • Express opinions, preferences, and simple reasons in conversation.
  • Participate in short exchanges on familiar topics (e.g., leisure, travel, daily routines).
  • Use correct pronunciation, intonation, and basic sentence structures to be understood.

Listening Skills

  • Understand the main points in short, clear messages, announcements, and everyday conversations.
  • Identify key information in audio/video resources from various French-speaking contexts.

Reading Skills

  • Comprehend short texts such as emails, menus, event announcements, and simple articles.
  • Use reading strategies (skimming, scanning) to find information quickly.

Writing Skills

  • Write short, connected texts (emails, descriptions, messages) using appropriate vocabulary and structures.
  • Apply basic grammar rules (present tense of common verbs, adjectives, and prepositions) to express clear ideas.

Cultural & Intercultural Awareness

  • Explore traditions, social norms, and daily life in French-speaking communities around the world.
  • Develop respectful communication strategies in intercultural settings.

Digital & Autonomous Learning Skills

  • Use online tools and apps to practice and expand vocabulary.
  • Apply self-study strategies (goal-setting, progress tracking) to continue learning beyond the classroom.

Course Details:

  • Online 6-week course (Nov 27 – Dec 5)
  • Approximately 3 - 4 hours of online asynchronous instruction / practice per week plus assignments 

Evaluation:

With the completion of all practice modules and the successful completion of all the assessment modules, with a successful completion of 70%, students will have demonstrated that they are capable of properly handling all the situations presented in the modules.

Prerequisites: 

Completion of French as a Language Level 1 micro-credential or an evaluation of suitability from the placement test.
