This program explores stereotypes, biases, and racism between Indigenous Peoples and Settlers as well as celebrating Indigenous culture.
Course Objectives:
Participants will demonstrate practical knowledge of:
- Understanding history from the Indigenous Peoples perspective
- How to make a difference within our community
Sessions:
There will be two sessions to attend:
1. PART A
In this 3-hour interactive session, participants explore the true and historic relationship between Indigenous Peoples and settlers. We will reflect on stereotypes, biases, and racism that still exist. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their personal identities and learning within educational systems and discuss ways to make a difference in sharing these truths.

- The sessions run in the Fall and Winter Terms
2. PART B
In the session, participants will celebrate Indigenous culture. The sessions will vary, but may include visiting the tipi and finding out more about Indigenous history within the Peterborough and Kingston area through community events.

It is happening September 19 and 20, 2026. Held at Curve Lake First Nation Pow Wow Grounds in Lime Kiln Park, 70 Whetung Street East, Curve Lake First Nation.
Sunrise Ceremony at 6 am.
Open starting at 10 am.
Grand Entry both days at 12 pm.
Drummer/Dancer Registration at 10 am.Hiawatha First Nation 30th Annual Traditional Pow Wow, Keene, ON
Happens during the May Long Weekend. Enjoy browsing at the many craft vendors and tasting the delicious traditional cuisine at some of the food vendors. Be delighted by the traditional dancing, singing and drumming.
Alderville First Nation Annual Traditional Pow Wow, Alderville Pow Wow Grounds, ON
Happens in July. Celebrate Anishinaabe culture at the Annual Traditional Pow Wow, a gathering of drummers, dancers, and community members from near and far.
Will be happening in February. It is an international documentary film festival centred on social and environmental justice.

This registers you for Part A.
Program Fees:
The fee for the workshop is $50. You may incur additional costs depending on what you choose for Part B.
