Admission

Admission

M.BEMA & G.Dip - September admissions only (applications due by February 1st). The application fee is $140 CDN.

MSc BEMA - admissions in January, May and September. Applications are due by June 1 (January start), December 1 (May start), or February 1 (September start). The application fee is $125 CDN. Applicants for M.Sc. program should have a supervisor commitment prior to applying, as MSc openings are dependent on funding and supervision capacity (lab openings). Please visit the Faculty and Research page for a listing of faculty and areas of research. Applicants are responsible for reaching out to a faculty member.

To be considered for admission, applicants for the M.BEMA, G.Dip or MSc programs will normally have completed a B.Sc. Honours degree (a 4-year bachelor's degree from a recognized university), with a minimum average of B+ (77%) in the work of the last 20 courses (last two undergraduate years). The BEMA program will consider Bachelor's degrees in other disciplines, if applicants have a Minor in a relevant science field and at least one statistics course.

Required Application Documents

All applicants, domestic and international, must submit the following documents to complete their application:

  • Transcript(s): Unofficial copies of all post-secondary transcripts
  • 2 letters of reference: Academic references are required for the MSc thesis stream. Professional references can be accepted for the course-based M.BEMA & G.Dip streams. Reference forms will be emailed to the referees that you have appointed on OUAC
  • Plan of Study (MSc) or Personal Statement (M.BEMA, G.Dip): 1-2 pages outlining your objectives in a graduate program. Any specific research interests (MSc), relevant experiences (all streams), and/or career aspirations (M.BEMA, G.Dip) can be included
  • Writing Sample (MSc only): A sample of your writing of about 20 pages or less. The preferred submission format is PDF. Good choices for writing samples include:  an undergraduate essay, lab report, research report, journal article, a chapter from a masters thesis, or a published article.
  • Detailed Resume or CV (required for MSc & recommended for M.BEMA/G.Dip)
  • Proof of Citizenship (ie. copy of passport or birth certificate)
  • Supervisor (MSc thesis-stream only): A potential supervisor must be chosen as an admission requirement for this program. Please list your supervisor on your OUAC application and discuss this in your plan of study.
