Campus Recreation’s Trent Excalibur eSports Teams
The Trent Athletics’ Campus Recreation eSports anticipates fielding teams in League of Legends, Rocket League, Valorant, Overwatch 2, Rainbow Six Siege, Counter-Strike 2, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate teams. These teams work in collaboration with the Trent University eSports Club, a student-led online club that provides opportunities for all Trent students to participate in eSports beyond the Excalibur teams.
The primary goal of the Trent University Esports Program is to provide an inclusive, enjoyable, and relaxed environment for students to come together, play competitive video games, and have fun. The program values camaraderie, sportsmanship, and personal growth over strict competitiveness. Skill imbalances will be noted, and efforts will be made to create balanced and diverse teams for multiplayer games. Players of all skill levels will have the opportunity to play and have a meaningful experience.
Fall 2023 Tryout Information:
Registration for tryouts is open until September 10th, 2023. Tryouts will take place between September 11th and September 16th, 2023. Teams will be announced and registered with the NECC by September 18th, 2023.
The tryout process for the Trent Excalibur eSports teams is meant to measure two traits that we are looking for in our eSports student athletes:
● Mechanical Skill: To ensure that we are only fielding skilled players who will represent Trent effectively in front of other schools and stream viewers.
● Teamworking Ability: To ensure that our athletes are able to work respectfully and effectively with others, even when they are not face-to-face.
Key Components of Fall Tryouts
After the registration period to tryout for the Excalibur eSports teams is over, players will be sorted into teams in their respective games based on their rank and selected role(s), grouping players with similar ranks together.
These teams will be asked to submit a video of them playing together, which includes both gameplay footage and their communications audio. This will allow both their mechanical skill and teamworking ability to be evaluated alongside their objective in-game rank. This footage will then be evaluated by two individuals from Campus Recreation.
Players will be judged on the following, in order of priority:
1. Their in-game rank
2. The footage they submit, including team communication
3. A review of their match history/profile, as well as their competitive experience
eSports Volunteer
We’re always looking for volunteers to help coach, manage, and otherwise support the teams. If you’re interested in getting some experience in the eSports world and think that you have a skill that could benefit the teams, register to be an eSports Volunteer through IMLeagues.
