COURSE DESCRIPTION Teaching Students with Communication Needs (Speech and Language) is an introductory AQ course for educators working in elementary, secondary, and specialized school-based classrooms. The course builds foundational understanding of speech and language development and the impact of communication needs on learning, social participation, and access to curriculum. Participants will explore typical and atypical communication development, including the needs of non-speaking and minimally speaking students, autistic learners, and students with complex communication needs. The course examines the use of assistive technology, AAC, digital tools, and emerging AI to support communication and participation across curricular areas and daily school routines. Emphasis is placed on universal design for learning, differentiated instruction, and collaborative practice with school teams and families.
