COURSE DESCRIPTION

Kindergarten Part 1 has been carefully based around the Full Day Kindergarten Curriculum program; it has practical assignments that will allow teachers time to reflect and create useful tools and practices they can replicate in their own classrooms. 

The course looks at current theory, research and resources from the Ministry of Education that encourages teachers to think about play-based, inquiry learning in Kindergarten. Participants are encouraged to make this course as useful as possible to their own needs by choosing topics for their assignments that appeal to them and allow them to develop their knowledge in areas that are their current areas of interest.

PREREQUISITES

(as required by OCT)

  • Primary Division qualifications
     
  • OCT Member in Good Standing or OCT applicant if new Ontario BEd graduate (Read more)
     
  • Your teacher education program coursework and practicum must be successfully completed before registration

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Kindergarten Part 2 is an opportunity for participants to dig deeper into The Kindergarten Program (2016). Part 2 explores theoretical foundations of the Full-Day Kindergarten Program (2016) and provides educators with the opportunity to further explore curriculum and ministry documents. 

Educators will explore how to consider the interests and wonders of our diverse learners as they plan for the Flow of the Day, play-based learning, inquiry and outdoor education.  In this course, participants will learn how to use student documentation as well as formal and informal assessment to complete the Communication of Learning.

PREREQUISITES

(as required by OCT)

  • OCT Member in Good Standing
     
  • Completion of Part 1 
     
  • 194 days teaching experience completed before the course start date - days of teaching can only be counted after you become a certified teacher

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Kindergarten Specialist course is designed for educators to dig deeper into early years education and develop leadership skills, in connection to the Full-Day Kindergarten Program (2016). 

The course is designed as a PLC (Professional Learning Community) where educators deepen their leadership capacity and pave a path to change in education as pedagogical leaders. With discussions in experiential learning, collaborative inquiries and pedagogy, participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences, findings and ideas for professional development, school advocacy plans and school-wide mentorship roles. 

Educators will be invited to engage in online and virtual discussions with opportunities to practice their leadership skills and foster discussion and PD opportunities in areas such as play-based education, outdoor learning, inquiry, inclusive spaces, literacy and the arts, loose parts play, assessment and pedagogy. 

PREREQUISITES

  • OCT Member in Good Standing
     
  • Completion of Part 2
     
  • 388 days teaching experience completed before the course start date - days of teaching can only be counted after you become a certified teacher
     
  • Minimum 1 year experience in teaching Kindergarten - completed before the course start date
