How did you become interested in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning?

I first became interested in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning when I saw the call for Trent Teaching Fellows. Dr. Elizabeth Torrens and I received a three-year fellowship to study student and faculty perspectives of the new Criminology degree, in comparison to the socio-legal specialization in Sociology.

What keeps you engaged or motivates you in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning?

As someone who loves teaching (and is critical by nature!) it is a natural fit to be constantly thinking about, and reflecting upon, my practices in the classroom, whether in person or in virtual settings. I want to know what students think is working and what could be improved upon. It is also just fun to engage with students and be able to think creatively.

What projects are you currently working on or hope to work on in the near future?

We are in the publishing stages of the Criminology / Socio-Legal fellowship project. So far, we have two papers accepted and a few more in the drafting stage. I am increasingly shifting towards a trauma-informed pedagogy perspective and want to work towards a SoTL project in this area.
