Languages & Linguistics

Learn a New Language. Prepare for the Future. Start Here.

Whether you're just beginning your studies or nearing graduation, now is the perfect time to enhance your degree with language learning.

Through Language & Linguistics at Trent, you can:

  • Start a new language from scratch
  • Build on existing language skills
  • Explore the scientific study of language through linguistics

Language learning not only strengthens your résumé—it also broadens your worldview and opens doors to new cultures and global opportunities. Even without leaving campus, you'll gain valuable cross-cultural experience. And if you're interested in studying abroad, opportunities are available!

Languages offered include:
  • Modern Languages: American Sign Language (ASL), French (French & Francophone Studies), German, Chinese, Spanish.
  • Indigenous Languages: Mohawk and Nishnaabemowin (in partnership with Chanie Wenjack School for Indigenous Studies)
  • Classical Languages: Latin and Ancient Greek (Ancient Greek & Roman Studies)

You can also pursue the Option in Languages or the Option in Linguistics to complement your major. These options provide a foundation in linguistics and allow you to focus on one or more languages.
