Student Sustainability Tips

Students

As a member of the academic community, you can impact our campus's sustainability initiatives significantly. By actively engaging with and deepening your connection to advancing sustainability, you can become catalysts for positive change now and throughout your career. Here are some suggestions:

  • Implement sustainable practices in your daily life - Take proactive steps to incorporate sustainability into your everyday routines, such as reducing energy consumption by unplugging electronics and turning things off when you aren’t using them. You have significant control in minimizing waste, supporting local and sustainable products, and practicing mindful consumption habits. By making sustainable choices in your personal life, you contribute to a positive environmental impact beyond the campus setting. Enroll in a course related to sustainability: Take advantage of courses that focus on sustainability topics to deepen your understanding and engagement with environmental issues.
  • Explore sustainability in your current courses - Inquire with your professors about how sustainability relates to the subject matter of your courses, and explore incorporating sustainability lenses into class discussions and assignments.
  • Adopt a sustainability focus for class projects - Collaborate with your faculty to integrate sustainability principles into your class projects, aligning your academic work with environmental objectives.
  • Embrace sustainable transportation - Reduce your carbon footprint by choosing low-carbon transportation options such as taking the bus, biking, or walking to campus.
  • Opt for reusable products - Make sustainable choices in your daily habits by using reusable items such as plates, EcoTrays, travel mugs, and water bottles. This minimizes waste and promotes resource conservation.
  • Attend events and workshops - Participate in sustainability-related lectures, workshops, and events offered by organizations like the Seasoned Spoon to expand your knowledge and network with like-minded individuals.
  • Get involved - Get involved in campus sustainability initiatives by volunteering with the sustainability office, contributing to projects and programs aimed at promoting environmental awareness and action within the university community.
