Campus Community Groups

BlueBoxing@Trent - This is a program facilitated by Community Living Peterborough on Trent's Symons Campus. This is a volunteer program connecting Trent staff and students with volunteers living with intellectual disabilities. The emphasis of the program is on raising awareness and sharing best practices regarding waste reduction and diversion.

B!ke: Peterborough Community Cycling Hub - B!ke is a local not for profit group that is active on Trent's campus. They are a levy group and offer many resources to support cyclists -from the newest beginner to the most seasoned!

Camp Kawartha and The Camp Kawartha Environment Centre - Trent is fortunate to host Camp Kawartha in their 2,000 square foot Environment centre sitting on 200 acres of Trent's stunning wildlife sanctuary. This building was designed and built by students in Fleming College’s Sustainable Building Design and Construction program under the expertise of Chris Magwood. This facility offers programming year-round and will be able to accommodate up to 80 people at any one time.

Diverse Nature Collective - Patrcia Wilson runs Diverse Nature Collective, a BIPOC-led organization focused on “creating space for conversation-minded folks to help empower and mobilize diverse voices.”

Food Services Sustainability Committee - This is a sub-committee of Trent's Food Services Committee that focuses on the continued integration of sustainable practices into Food Services on campus.

Kawartha World Issues Centre - KWIC is a levy group that connects global issues with local action. They are located in the ESC and maintain a library of environmental and sustainability-related resources.

Ontario Public Interest Research Group - OPIRG is levy group that hosts events and provides services around social and environmental justice. You will see their Free Market, used item donation bins across campus.

The Seasoned Spoon Café - The Seasoned Spoon is an independent café at Trent University offering delicious lunches and snacks for students, staff and faculty. Acting as an alternative to the offerings of the larger corporations, the Spoon's mission is to serve up ethically mindful fare on 'real' dishes.

Nature Areas Stewardship Advisory Committee – Twelve designated nature areas on and around Trent’s Symons campus are useful for teaching, scientific research and nature interpretation. They provide opportunities for outdoor recreation and enhance the campus aesthetically. They also serve to maintain the ecological and human health of the region.

Trent Market Gardens - This group provides opportunities to enhance your classroom learning with hands-on growing. They work closely with Campus Food Services to grow food to enjoy on campus and even offer a CSA basket (Community Supported Agriculture).

Trent Vegetable Gardens - Operating in a close partnership with the Seasoned Spoon this campus group operates two gardens on campus (one on the ESC green roof) and strive to connect the Trent Community to sustainable food production.

Tua Kappa Epsilon (TKE) Fraternity - Trent University’s fraternity members are key organizers of the monthly Clothing Swap at Otonabee College and help minimize textile waste by providing a local circular economy where students can swap, trade and donate clothes.
