How to Apply and Register

The first step is identifying what type of summer student you are:

Student from Another University

New Trent Student

Trent Alum oR Former Student

Current Trent Students

Keep your academic momentum going. Get ahead in your studies this summer online, wherever you are.

Summer courses are a great way to get ahead in your degree or to pick up any credits you’ve missed along the way. Since you’re already enrolled as a Trent student, registering for an online summer course is easy.

  1. Log in to your myTrent > Register > Self Service.
  2. Complete required agreements.
  3. Visit the Student Planning & Registration.
  4. Then choose Plan Your Degree and Register for classes option.

The full-length How to Register for Courses video is available on the Academic Advising website under Video Tutorials and the Course Selection and Registration pages.

Course overload for the summer term

Full-time and part-time eligible students may register in up to 2.0 credits (four courses) overall in the summer session. A full load in a six-week term is 1.0 credit. Students with an academic status of Good Standing may enroll in up to 1.5 credits in one six-week term. Students wishing to take more than 1.5 credits in one six-week term must submit a Course Overload petition to the Committee on Undergraduate Petitions.

Notes

  • The course overload maximums do not apply where a program’s planned curriculum requires that students take an additional load.
  • Upon registration, students are responsible for making themselves aware of the academic and financial obligations and deadlines associated with each course.

Student from Another University

Take a course on a Letter of Permission and make the most of your summer.

Attending another university but looking to get ahead or make up a credit? We welcome visiting students from all universities.

  1. Explore the Undergraduate Timetable to view available courses.
  2. Request a Letter of Permission from your home university.
  3. Login using an existing OUAC account or create a new account to apply to Trent.
  4. When you complete your online course at Trent, you can transfer the credit back to your degree at your home university.

New Trent Student

Have you thought about taking a university course or starting a degree, but aren’t sure about where to start or what to take?

Summer courses are a great way to dive into Trent and explore your options… and your interests. Trent offers over 100 courses in various disciplines, including popular ones like Nursing, Psychology, and Environmental Studies - or experience something new – from Wildlife DNA Forensics to Cyberethics, and everything in between.

Two ways to apply:

  1. Apply directly to Trent and we will waive the application fee
Are you a Canadian student, not currently enrolled at an Ontario high school? Our direct application makes it fast and easy for you to apply and confirm your summer registration. Once you have completed the direct application, we will be in touch through email with details on how to set up your myTrent account. Once your admission documents have been submitted and your application has been assessed (and you meet all admissions criteria), you will receive an offer of admission. Accept your offer and you can then register in your course(s) of interest.
  2. Apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre
Once admitted, you will be able to register for courses through the myTrent student portal.

International Students: Apply through the Trent International application.

If you have questions, review our admissions requirements for more information.
